What is a BCBA?
A BCBA is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst certified by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board.
How do you get a BCBA anyway?
The BCBA is an exam. Simply passing a test doesn’t qualify someone as an expert on autism, especially when you consider the next question.
Does simply having a BCBA qualify someone as an expert on autism?
Nope. A person can be a BCBA without ever treating or even meeting someone with ASD. Behavior analysis is just an approach to human behaviour and not defined by any single diagnostic condition like autism.
Are all BCBAs equal?
No.
Some BCBAs have many years of expertise and experience in the field of ASD treatment. They possess the BCBA just as an additional qualification, like our consultant, Dr. James Partington.
Dr. Partington, Ph.D., BCBA-D, is a licensed psychologist and Doctoral-level Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA-D).
More importantly, he has more than 40 years experience working with children with developmental disabilities.
Others simply have the BCBA - and nothing more. They know nothing about ASD or its treatment at all.
